The piano technicians’ playground is coming to the uk

The Piano Technology School, is excited to announce that the “ Piano Technician’s Playground” will be launched on Sunday May 19th in association with Blüthner Pianos, London; marking a welcome addition to professional training sessions for piano tuners & technicians in the the UK and Europe.

The Technician’s Playground is kindly being donated to the Piano Technology School by The Piano Technician’s Guild  (PTG). The Playground is a successful initiative that can help tuners to brush up on their repair skills or perhaps learn them for the first time.

The playground consists of several piano repair activity “stations “ that provide an informal and practical opportunity to practice and develop specific skills.

Unlike formal class settings, the playground is hands-on and facilitated, rather than taught.

Each station has an instruction video that is accessible via a QR code and can be watched on your device. There are a small number of trainers on hand but learners can work at their own pace.

The Piano Technology School, now based in Rugby, has been running “An intensive introduction in Piano Tuning & Repair” for nearly 10 years and and is now looking to expand the amount of professional training days and courses it can offer to those working as piano tuners.

We have wanted to do a “ A back to school” sort of event for a long time and this works so well. We are so grateful to the  PTG for supporting us in this way.” explains course director & trainer  Steve Droy.

This is a great way for all piano tuners, to refresh their skills in a fun and relaxed way. We know for example that there are tuners out there, who were never taught or shown how to replace a string on a customer’s piano- or perhaps they have forgotten how to do Key Bushing. We really hope they will join us for the sessions we are planning to run.

“ I love the pedagogic approach that makes “the playground” unique and work  so well” says business development  trainer and director of the Piano Technology school, Tabitha Droy: “Learning  by making mistakes is such a valuable way to learn. Tuners can practice at their own pace, its very relaxed  and of course, problem solving is big part of being a piano technician.”

By also attending college and school career events or MusicEd events and inviting people to come and have a go, The Piano Technology School hopes to inspire the next generation of piano tuners.

The Technician’s playground will make it’s first appearance as part of a training day in association with Blüthner, at The Blüthner Centre London on Sunday May 19th.
